Spider Exterminator

The presence of spiders may indicate an infestation with other pests, as these eight-legged arachnids are effective natural pest control themselves.

Spiders are one of the most common pests around a home. Although one of the most prevalent phobias in the U.S. is arachnophobia (fear of spiders), they generally do not pose any threats to humans and are considered nuisance pests.

When spiders are outside, they have to deal with predators, harsh weather conditions, and many other dangers that can harm them and their webs. However, the inside of your home has everything spiders need – food, water, hiding places, and the perfect moisture content. Many people hate spiders, but no one loves having spiders in their home, whether you fear them or not.

At Titan Pest & Wildlife, our ultimate goal is to keep you, your family, and pets free from all pests, including spiders. Our highly trained technicians know how to deal with spiders in your home. If you want a reliable and professional team that you can trust to get the job done right the first time, give us a call for any spider pest control in Kansas City & Kansas City.

Types of Spiders

A few characteristics easily identify spiders: they have eight legs, two or three pairs of eyes, don’t have wings, and most of them will build webs to catch their prey. There are hundreds of spider species that you might find in your home, and they vary in size, behavior, and possible threat to humans.

Most spiders can’t bite you, as their fangs are too small to penetrate your skin. Another positive fact about spiders is that they do not actively seek to bite you, and it will only be used as a defense mechanism if you corner it, accidentally step or sit on it, or try to kill it with your bare hands.

The most common types of spiders you are likely to encounter in your home include:

  • Common house spiders
  • Cellar spiders
  • Wolf spiders
  • Crab spiders
  • Brown Recluse
  • Black Widows

Only Two Venomous Spiders

There are only two species of venomous spider in Missouri – the black widow and the brown recluse. While you should seek medical attention if bitten by one of these, spider bites are rarely fatal. However, they can cause severe muscle pain or cramping and other serious side effects.

  • Black Widow Spiders – It is extremely rare to find black widow spiders indoors. They generally prefer to live outdoors in undisturbed areas. They are likely to be found in and around woodpiles, in a dark corner of a garage or shed, or in other dark, quiet places. They are nocturnal, so they stay in their nests during the day. Finally, they are easy to identify – they are shiny black, about ½ inch long, and the female will display a spectacular red marking on her abdomen, in the shape of an hourglass.
  • Brown Recluse Spiders – This spider is much harder to identify than the Black Widow since it doesn’t display any distinctive markings and may be easily confused with other, non-threatening species. At a closer inspection, you will find the unique features of this formidable spider: it only has three pairs of eyes, compared to the usual four pairs that most spiders display, and it has a violin-shaped marking on its cephalothorax. A brown recluse spider bite will start as a blister and develop into an ulcer that takes months to heal, and the victim might also show other symptoms.

How to Get Rid of Spiders

There are several methods of discouraging spiders from taking shelter in your home and using it as hunting grounds. For a start, our spider exterminators will remove any spider webs and egg pouches found in the area and will likely spray some barrier pesticide at entry points.

Spider control takes more than eliminating the existing spiders, and our pest control expert will instruct you on how to make your home less appealing for these critters. Removing debris, excess moisture, and controlling other pests, are critical in ensuring no more spiders lurk around your home.
