If the termite inspection shows signs of termites, contact Titan Pest & Wildlife immediately. The longer you wait, the greater the damage and costs.
If you’re in the process of buying a new home – congratulations! Whether this is your first home or not, buying a house is always an exciting process. However, what isn’t exciting, is moving into your new home and discovering that termites or carpenter ants have caused structural damage. Before you move into your new home, it’s essential to have a termite inspection performed by an inspector. This will help you avoid any unforeseen costs or damages.
How Termites Cause Damage
Termites are nasty insects. They are silent, nearly invisible creatures that have the potential to cause extensive damage before a homeowner ever recognizes that they have a termite infestation. It’s estimated that they cause more than $5 billion in property damage every year.
Termites gradually destroy the basic structures and foundations of a home or building. The biggest problem with termites is that you can’t usually see them or the damage they have caused until too late. They are exceptionally well-organized pests and can find a way inside any structure.
Get a Termite Inspection Before You Sign
Before you officially purchase your new home, schedule a termite inspection. These are separate from the home inspection you’ve likely already gotten done. While termites may be discovered during the home inspection, you can’t count on them completely. A termite inspector has one job – to inspect and probe for signs of termites.
Signs of a termite infestation include:
- Mud tubes
- Wood damage
- Termite exit holes
- Termite droppings
- Discarded wings
Based on each termite species ‘ individual behavior, the inspector will focus on common termite entry points and potential hot spots for activity. Some of these areas will include the inside and outside perimeter of a home, including the basement, attics, and crawlspace.
